David Hoobler is a native San Francisco Bay Area artist presently living and working in Oakland, California. Mr. Hoobler is a graduate of Sonoma State University of California with a BA. in studio art. While living in the Sonoran Desert outside of Tucson, AZ, Mr. Hoobler wrote the story Zonk, the dreaming tortoise. "The Sonoran Desert is a magical place;” says Mr. Hoobler, intense, hostile and beautiful. This is where the images for Zonk were born. My fascination with Sonoran Desert and the Sea of Cortez has been the source of inspiration for my Zonk Books.” Last year I camped my way up and down the length of Baja working on Zonk and the Secret Lagoon. On the trip I became aware of the plight of the Vaquita, the most endangered porpoise in the world. Although my effort is focused on creating beautiful art and engaging stories, I hope I can make the world a little more interested and aware of the beauty, variety and delicacy of the treasures of the Sonoran Desert, the Sea of Cortez, and Baja.”Hoobler, David is the author of 'Zonk And the Secret Lagoon The Further Adventrues of Zonk the Dreaming Tortoise', published 2005 under ISBN 9780970653710 and ISBN 0970653719.
