Spanish artist Luis Royo is known throughout the world for his fantasy illustrations. Royo, who was born in 1945, was already an accomplished cartoonist and painter in 1983 when he decided to dedicate all his time to illustration. His work, which had previously appeared in Spanish magazines such as Cimoc, was soon to be seen in major American publications such as Heavy Metal and Warner Books. Up until 1990, most of Royo's artwork consisted of commisioned work, but in the past decade he has also produced several books of illustration that combine Previously unpublished material with commissioned work. Women, which was published in 1990, introduced the subject that was to remain central to his work: magnificent female figures in every imaginable setting. This was followed by Malefic (illustrating the theme of Beauty and the Beast, another of Royo's obsessions), Secrets, III Millennium (in which he offers his own distinctive viewpoint on the end of the millennium), Dreams, Evolution, The Prohibited Books series (filled with sensuality), Conceptions (which shows the creative process through sketches) and finally Visions. He has received numerous awards, such as the Silver Award Spectrum (U.S.A), Cartoomics (Italy) and the Pilgrim prize (Russia).Royo, Luis is the author of 'Visions', published 2003 under ISBN 9781561633555 and ISBN 1561633550.
