Sticker Shock is a book that takes a look at a very specific form of protest that was taking place in the East Village of New York City during the days of the 2004 Republican Convention. As I made my way through the city during the days leading up to the convention I noticed a particular voice peppered on the walls, parking meters, street signs, and lamp posts of my neighborhood. This dialogue reached a crescendo as the convention moved into town. The voice became so loud I was comelled at the very least to document these very pointed and cretive stickers for my own historical record and interest. As the collection of these photographs began to grow a very distinctive narrative thread began to emerge. The assembled narrative became Sticker Shock. It is a project meant to disseminate a voice that simply may not have been hard outside its little corner of the world. A voice desperately calling out for help. A voice desperately calling out for change. –Matthew Kraus (author, photographer, designer)Kraus, Matthew is the author of 'Sticker Shock', published 2004 under ISBN 9780976250708 and ISBN 0976250705.
