James Bruce Stanley developed a passion for public service while growing up in the Donelson-Hermitage area of Nashville, Tennessee. In 1995, he was elected to the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Council and served as representative for its fourteenth district until 2003. While on the Metro Council, Stanley chaired the Education; Parks, Library, and Recreation; Noise Mitigation; and the McGavock Cluster Capital Needs Committees. In addition, he served on the Council’s Planning, Zoning, and Historical Committee; the Transportation and Aviation Committee; the Storm Water Management Task Force; the Tornado Recovery Board; and the Courthouse Commemoration Committee. Stanley also served as a Council representative on the Metropolitan Nashville Greenways Commission. Stanley graduated from McGavock High School and received a bachelor’s degree in history from Middle Tennessee State University. He completed the teacher licensure program at MTSU and is certified as a teacher of secondary education history. A resident of Donelson, Stanley currently serves on the board for the Stanford Estates Homeowners’ Association and is an active member of the Donelson-Hermitage Neighborhood Association.
