This report contains the first data & analysis released from the 1999 Nat. Household Survey on Drug Abuse conducted by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Admin. (SAMHSA). The report provides national estimates of rates of use, number of users, & other measures related to the use of illicit drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, & other forms of tobacco by the population, ages 12 years & older. It includes national estimates of trends in the initiation of substance use, as well as the extent of both drug dependence & drug treatment in the country.
