Julia Ray earned her doctorate in education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her research, exploring the power of music in second language acquisition, forms the basis for this curriculum series. In addition, she holds a BA in music, an MA in education, a California teaching credential (K-8), an administrative credential, and Orff-Schulwerk certification. Currently, she is a music/language resource teacher with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), in her 26th year, and part-time faculty at Citrus College in music education. Throughout her career, she has served as a lecturer/presenter for local, state and national conference, teacher trainer for several school districts, developer of the Language Through Music portion of LAUSD’s Eastman Project, and creator/director of Classics for Children, a program providing inner-city children with an opportunity to participate in classical productions such as The Nutcracker.
