This book tells the story of Theodore Selig, M.D.: street brawler, music man, physician and medical director. A little Down syndrome boy is accidently killed trying to hang out with Theodore's juvenile gang. Although he tries to save him, Theodore blames himself for the boy's death, and carries the guilt with him into manhood, along with ingrained street-savvy instincts. Driven by his guilt, he plans to make amends by helping mentally challenged children. He supports himself through his medical training doing cocktail lounge piano gigs. As a psychiatrist in private practice, deep-seated remorse turns him to drugs and alcohol and puts him on a path toward a nervous breakdown. A rich broth of love, admiration and concern stirred by friends and lovers, some with shared needs and weaknesses, gives him a new sense of resolve and direction as he takes over as medical director of a psychiatric clinic for children. The lurching, stumbling progress down the path of his medical career appears to have been transformed, into a glorious leap toward absolution. In mid-leap, corrupt managers within the clinic's parent company find that Theodore's medical plans will cost them dearly. He finds himself battling shadowy rogues and their maniacal enforcer -- a deadly combination for a medic to handle. But, Theodore is by no means the conventionally equipped physician.Maisner, Larry is the author of 'Glow from a Gentle Lantern', published 2004 under ISBN 9781413703306 and ISBN 1413703305.
