More than twenty-five years of EC harmonisation and regulation have led to a convergence of the corporate laws of the Member States but only within a rather narrow scope. Differences between the corporate laws of the Member States are still considerable and are perceived as obstacles to the integration of the different economies.But this does not mean that analysis and comparison will not yield general principles or that general observations are hardly possible. On the contrary, the commonplace remark that details only take on significance within a given context has been an incentive as well as a guideline for writing this book.The subjects are dealt with, of necessity, largely in terms of principles.
