Elasticity: Theory, Applications and Numerics has been developed as a text for a one or two-semester graduate elasticity course. The text begins with a clear and organized presentation of the theoretical formulation, done in a concise manner so as not to lose attention of less-mathematically inclined students or the focus of applications. A wide variety of analytical solutions to problems of engineering interest are presented, many of which come from contemporary areas of solid mechanics research including fracture mechanics, composite and functionally graded materials, micromechanics, and thermoelasticity. Numerical activities are integrated with analytical problem solution using MATLAB® software. These numerics aid in particular calculations, graphically present stress/displacement solutions to problems of interest, and conduct simple finite element calculations enabling comparisons with previously studied analytical solutions. Numerous exercises are provided at the end of each chapter for homework assignments to engage students with the subject matter. These exercises also provide an ideal tool for the instructor to present additional application examples during class lectures. A solutions manual and downloadable MATLAB® codes are conveniently available on the publishers web site www.books.elsevier.com.Sadd, Martin H. is the author of 'Elasticity Theory, Applications, and Numerics', published 2004 under ISBN 9780126058116 and ISBN 0126058113.
