San Francisco is always up to something and this night she was up to her bare butt in oil. Crude oil that is - all over the damn beautiful bay. Two Standard Oil Company tankers collided in the early morning and spilled their guts of dull black, jelly-like crude oil. The oil moved inexorably onto beaches at Half Moon Bay, San Francisco and the entire perimeter surrounding Oakland and Richmond. The heaviest oil concentrations were in the vicinity of Alcatraz and the south side of Angel Island. Through television and radio airwaves, the news of the collision and spill spread quickly.
