Artadia Houston 2004 is the inaugural catalogue in the Artadia Catalogue Series. Each catalogue accompanies an exhibition which culminates a two year award cycle in each of Artadia's award cities. This catalogue was published to highlight the second cycle of awards in Houston in 2004 and the "Artadia @ DiverseWorks" exhibition on view at DiverseWorks, Houston, TX from July 9-August 5, 2005. Artadia was founded in 1997 as the 501(c)(3) nonprofit called The ArtCouncil, by investment banker and art collector Christopher E. Vroom as a response to the demise of the National Endowment for the Arts' artist fellowships. Once Artadia commits to a community, it returns every other year to run its awards programs and, in alternate years, it co-sponsors a public program with a local institution. Artadia Awards aredetermined through a rigorous jury process that employs nationally prominent curators, artists, and critics. Artadia partners with local foundations and individuals in the host cities from to raise funds that go directly to artists in that community. Artadia matches those contributions by providing the funds that administer the program. Once an artist receives an Artadia Award, he or she becomes part of a national network of support forever. Since its founding in 1997, Artadia has awarded over $2.0 million to more than 200 artists in its participating cities. Artadia currently runs award programs in San Franicsco Bay Area, Houston, Chicago, and Boston with plans to expand to ten cities around the country in the near future.Cruz, Amada is the author of 'Artadia Houston 2004', published 2005 under ISBN 9780980193404 and ISBN 0980193400.
